Add Rock Star's new release LA Noire to your collection

Rock Star the developers for addictive games like Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption, recently launched it's newest title LA Noire.  This game has the same sort of feeling during game play as Grand Theft Auto only the player gets more involved with the story by solving cases and trying to understand characters rather then spending hours driving around aimlessly. But for auto enthusiast, dont worry they got you covered, snatch as many cars as you want if you want to earn that medal. LA Noire's story takes place during the post-war boom of Hollywood's Golden Age, Cole Phelps is an LAPD detective thrown headfirst into a city drowning in its own success. Corruption is rampant, the drug trade is exploding, and murder rates are at an all-time high. In his fight to climb the ranks and do what’s right, Phelps must unravel the truth behind a string of arson attacks, racketeering conspiracies and brutal murders, battling the L.A. underworld and even members of his own department to uncover a secret that could shake the city to its rotten core.

LA Noire is a violent crime thriller and does contain scenes that are definitely adult content. I would not recommend this for children under 16. What you will find unique about this game is the entertainment factor beacuse you feel like you are controlling a movie not playing a game. In addition, each character has their own facial expressions and you have to figure out if the person is lying to you or telling the truth as you try to solve cases and advance the story. This game is definitely addicting if you enjoy role playing games that host a challenge. If you are the kind of person who must grab all the trophy's and medals and solve the cases 100% correct then, Rock Star added a Social Club to the game play that allows you to connect online with other players and grab advice on how to interrogate your suspects that will help you solve the crimes.

As a native from LA I'm giving this the thumbs up, Rock Star really did their homework and gave us a game that really looks and feels like post World War 2 LA. The amount of details both in the script, map and game play really make this game out of the ordinary.

Ok finally we have a memo released from Sony PSN stating that PSN is planning on fully restoring service on Tuesday May 24th. That means that the PlayStation Store will be available for downloads and business as usual.  According to the Sony memo, there will be a delay in content available for downloading. The scheduled dates for available content are May 27, 31 and June 3rd. Sony may adjust the schedule but for now this is what is planned. It was not mentioned in the memo if this included the 2 Free games available for users to download as part of the Welcome back package. It may be possible that this is the release dates for the games and expansion packs that users were not able to download in the down time.  Again check the store frequently from May 24th on in order to be sure you dont miss out.

For the next 30 days all PSN users can choose 2 games from the following choices:

Check the PlayStation Store regularly in the next 30 days beacuse Sony will also be giving away 100 FREE virtual items. Fan site worth checking out

Every now and then we run across sites that are worth a mention and is generally entertaining.
I have picked two for this week’s websites worth mentioning. Both of these sites were chosen based on the ‘keeping it real factor’. The content was created by game fans who just purely love what they do and have created video and content for our enjoyment. The first video is a trailer for Half Life created by the Purchase Brothers. These guys made the video on a budget of $500. I personal think Valve could not have done a better job. Both ‘Fall Out’ and ‘Kill Zone’ fan made videos are worth watching, way to go guys.

The Second site worth a browse is Lethal Frag by Matt McKnight. Matt is a serious gamer who created his own video walk through and game tricks.

GGP is all about serious game fans and sharing the love. If you or someone you know has a site worth a mention e-mail me and I’ll try and post it.

'Brink' Bethesda's latest release

Monday May 9th Bethesda Soft works latest first person shooter, 'Brink' was released. Bethesda is well know for some of the best game titles we loved in the past such as Doom, Quake, Fallout and Wolfinstien.  Brink, Bethesda newest FPS is beginning to look pretty promising. Brink is an immersive first-person shooter that blends single-player, co-op, and multiplayer game play into one seamless experience, allowing you to develop your character whether playing alone, with your friends, or against others online. You decide the combat role you want to assume in the world of Brink as you fight to save yourself and mankind’s last refuge. Brink offers a compelling mix of dynamic battlefields, extensive customization options, and an innovative control system that will keep you coming back for more.

Some of the customizations that include designing your own player’s body build and appearance are factored into its performance ability. For example, the larger the body the stronger it may be however he can also be slower and less agile. The weapons and controls are nothing to new. Some people might find this easier to get into the game. But I think this really comes down to personal choice. The game host single player campaign, co-op and Multi-player with up to 16 players at a time. Sorry to say, this game won’t offer you a mosh pit if that is what you’re expecting. Other development includes “play Smart” which gives you intelligence and direction to help you complete a mission.

The game does have the feel of other FPS like Kill Zone and Call of Duty with nothing incredibly new or unseen. For FPS fans I would say this is worth getting. Bethesda so far has done a pretty good job on developing games we like with an original look and feel. It is to early to tell if this will be a huge success but I don’t think FPS fans will be let down.

PlayStation Network customer update

Well another week has gone by and PSN services are still unavailable. Service was supposed to have been restored to the PlayStation Network customers last week as promised by Sony’s executive deputy president Kazuo Hirai in his press speech given on May 1st.  Apparently Sony was unable to restore service and stated they are 'undergoing further system checks'. As of the last official communication from Sony on March 5th, PSN does not have a confirmed date as to when the service will be available. However according to Mariko Yasu from Bloomberg, Sony plans to restore network service by May 31st.  Meanwhile, many users are expressing frustration from the unfulfilled promise to restore the network services during the promised time frame.

Sony PSN has faced a firestorm of negative press since the network went down from malicious attacks by suspected hackers calling themselves "Anonymous" who infiltrated the Network on April 22nd stealing 70+ million members’ identities. At last there is some good news for PlayStation users. Sony has released a plan to take care of their customers while they make further adjustments to secure their network. On Sony's update on May 5th Sony is offering free ‘All Clear ID Plus’ service to all of its United States customers. Sony is currently working on a deal to have the service available in Europe and other countries shortly. The program information and activation codes will be sent to its US customers shortly via e-mail and you have until June 18th to sign up.

What will the ‘All Clear ID Plus’ do for me? How does it work?
1.                  By signing up for the all clear ID plus you are protected by the industries best cyber monitoring and surveillance companies. This is a 3rd party surveillance program that will detect the use of your identity and monitor that against criminal websites and look for any suspicious reports where your identity might have been used. It checks police or law enforcement agencies reports to identify if someone has used your identity and you will be alerted immediately.
2.                  It offers a staffed licensed private investigator that will investigate any unauthorized use of your information and if necessary help you restore any damages that might have occurred.
3.                  All Clear ID Plus will offer you $1 million identity theft insurance policy per user

The All Clear Identity Plus service will be free for one year and is a good step for Sony to quickly offer a plan to put its customers first. We can all understand that any company, who does business focused around a large global network, faces chances of a criminal hack attacks. Learning from your weakness’ can only make you stronger in the end.  Its no doubt when Sony Entertainment goes back into service and within the next year we will see some big changes that will put them back into leadership position in the game industry.

Who gets to test and what games will be available to test will very from region to region according to Sony. It will be interesting to exactly how this plays out as 70 million users gain access to PlayStation Plus.

Sony PlayStation to restore service

In an official press conference this morning Sunday May 1st, Sony’s executive deputy president Kazuo Hirai bowing deeply, addresses the press saying, “I am deeply sorry for worrying and inconveniencing our users,”. He announced Sony PlayStation Network will restore partial services this week. The company also announced both a series of immediate steps to enhance security across the network and a new customer appreciation program to thank its customers for their patience and loyalty. The network hack is now being called the largest attack ever in history. The undergoing investigation includes the help of the FBI and many legal enforcement agencies worldwide.

Most of the network services will be restored with the exception of the PlayStation Store where users can purchase and download games and content. This will not be restored until later this month due to security upgrades. When the network is restored, users will need to change their pass words upon immediate sign in to network services. The launch of the 'Welcome back program' will be different based on your location and will include the following:

  • Each territory will be offering selected PlayStation entertainment content for free download. Specific details of this content will be announced in each region soon.
  • All existing PlayStation Network customers will be provided with 30 days free membership in the PlayStation Plus premium service. Current members of PlayStation Plus will receive 30 days free service.
  • Q Music Unlimited subscribers (in countries where the service is available) will receive 30 days free service.

Sony is making a serious move toward strengthening its online services and had been working on a new data center in a different location that has been under construction and development for several months. Sony has decided to expedite the move and is also creating the position of Chief Information Security Officer, directly reporting to Shinji Hasejima, Chief Information Officer of Sony Corporation, to add a new position of expertise in and accountability for customer data protection, and to supplement existing information security personnel.

Sony has a lot of work to do to regain customer loyalty but will be making every effort to regain its leading position in the video gaming industry. “Sony continues to place utmost priority on its network strategy,” Mr. Hirai said. “We intend to continue our global expansion.” I for one am looking forward to seeing Sony get back into the game.
